Eliminate Allergens for Good

Dealing with allergies is never fun, and in the Fredericksburg, Virginia, area, symptoms are common among local residents. As the seasons change, allergies may come and go, but you can take some steps to get rid of allergens within your home.

Start in the Bedroom

If you’re waking up congested every morning, you probably need to spend some time getting rid of the allergens within your bedroom. As you sleep, contaminants in the air can get into your system, causing you to wake up with a stuffy nose. Start by washing your bedding in hot water at least once a week. If your symptoms are bad, you might want to use dust-mite-proof covers on your mattress and pillows. Wash the curtains and dust frequently to eliminate any allergens that have settled on surfaces.

If pets sleep in your bed, you may be experiencing allergies to their dander. Keep them out of the bedroom, if possible, or brush and bathe them regularly to keep dander under control. You can also use an air purifier to eliminate some of the particles that cause allergies.

Vacuum Often

It’s also important to keep up with regular vacuuming to manage allergic symptoms. Carpet fibers trap contaminants, which get pushed into the air when you walk across the surface. Use a vacuum with a HEPA-rated filter to eliminate smaller particles. On hard flooring, aim to sweep and mop at least once a week.

Clean the Ducts

As your HVAC system runs, the particles in the air often settle in the ducts. This leads to poor indoor air quality, which can increase your allergic symptoms.

By taking these few steps in your home, you can reduce the allergic symptoms among your family members. Schedule indoor air quality service with us at Custom/Design by calling (540) 602-4119.
