Help! My Ductless AC System Has a Water Leak!
A water leak in a ductless air conditioner in Caroline, VA, might be cause for alarm. Addressing the problem is critical to prevent property damage. Let’s explore some possible causes of the water leak in your ductless AC system.
Blocked Drain Tube
The purpose of the drain line in your ductless AC system is to transport the moisture from condensation that has accumulated in the drain pan to the outdoors. If this tube develops a clog, the moisture will drip from the drain pan onto your wall or floor. Regular AC maintenance is the best way to ensure that the drain line remains open.
Dirty Air Filter
There are filters on the indoor units that collect dust and other debris as the air circulates in and out of the ductless mini-split system. If not cleaned on a regular basis, the filters can develop clogs, and debris can begin to accumulate on the coils.
In some cases, cold condensation forms on the surface of the dirty coils. When the coils warm up again, moisture can drip from the coils onto nearby surfaces.
Rusted or Cracked Drain Pain
A metal drain pan can become corroded from rust and can even crack over time. A deteriorated drain pan will not adequately hold the moisture that drips into it from condensation. It’s best to have one of our HVAC service technicians replace a damaged drain pan.
A ductless AC system is an excellent method of cooling your Caroline, VA, home or place of business in the summer. Like any HVAC system, a ductless air conditioner may sometimes leak for the reasons described here. If you’re encountering leaks from your ductless AC system, give Custom/Design Heating & Air Conditioning a call. We’ll be happy to inspect the ductless AC system and eliminate the leak.
