3 Signs You Should Have Your Ductwork Replaced

Ductwork is an integral part of the HVAC system in your King George, VA, home. That’s because it circulates warm or cool air to regulate indoor temperatures. Though ductwork is durable, there comes a time when you need to replace it. Here are three signs that indicate your ductwork needs replacing:

Old and Inefficient Air Ducts

Ducts last anywhere from 10 to 25 years. If your ducts are older, you might want to get them replaced. As air ducts age, their seals weaken and their joints loosen.

Aged ducts can also develop holes that allow conditioned air to leak out. Holes and cracks also let untreated air in, making your HVAC system much less efficient. If you notice uneven airflow and temperatures throughout your home, it may be time to check and replace the ducts.

Poor Indoor Air Quality

Deteriorating ducts can decrease indoor air quality. Dust and other debris can make their way through the gaps in the seals as they loosen. The dirt and debris can circulate throughout your home, and this can cause respiratory problems and worsen allergies for those who have them. If you have recently had HVAC maintenance and still contend with poor air quality, have a professional examine your ducts for holes and gaps.

Strange Noises From the Ductwork

If you hear rattling sounds from your ductwork, there’s a problem. There may be severe damage or clogs may be present.

Sometimes, the professional can clear the clog or repair the cracks, and you can save your ductwork. However, a replacement might be your only option if the issues are too severe.

If you notice any of these signs in your ductwork, have a professional inspect it immediately. Our well-trained professionals at Custom/Design Heating & Air Conditioning can assess your ductwork and make the necessary replacements with customized solutions.
