What Typically Happens During a Furnace Inspection?
The last thing on your mind once the new year rolls around is to have your Fredericksburg, Virginia, furnace inspected. It’s been working great all winter long, so why spend money on having a service technician look at it now? A furnace inspection is crucial to extending the life of your unit and can stop small issues from becoming big ones. Keep reading to learn why furnace inspections are important and what happens during one.
The Importance of Furnace Inspections
There are numerous reasons to have your furnace inspected. A well-functioning heating system can reduce your energy bills, help your unit last longer, and prevent unnecessary damage to the system’s essential components. Regular inspections and preventive maintenance are also important for safety reasons.
What Service Technicians Look for During Inspections
Most service technicians will check the entire heating system, including looking for any ductwork issues during a furnace inspection. They start by checking the vent systems to see if they have any leaks or blockages. The heat exchanger is also inspected for signs of corrosion and separations to prevent the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The blower on the furnace is also inspected, and the blower and all attached parts are cleaned. The seal around the blower access door is checked to ensure it’s tight.
Some service technicians will also perform an amp-draw test to ensure the blower is blowing heat as it should. This is also important for safety reasons because it can help reduce the risk of fire.
Next, the technician will check the flue for obstructions and test all safety controls. Belts are inspected for wear and cracks and, in some instances, are replaced. The unit’s startup cycle is tested, too.
Finally, the air filter is checked and usually replaced.
